Below are some of our favorite spring and early summer events and activities we enjoy in Steamboat Springs.
Activities
Take a Hike
If the snow melts fast spring is a beautiful time to hike in Steamboat Springs. While the ski mountain will have snow on it for a while many trails with good exposure to the sun dry fast. Emerging colors and budding flora and fauna make for a refreshing and energizing time to enjoy the mountain air. Good local hikes include the Steamboat ski mountain, Emerald Mountain, Mad Creek trail, and Buffalo Pass. Rabbit Ears Pass (a bit further out of town) offers equally beatiful hiking oppurtunities - just pull off at any trailhead. One safety warning: the bears are "waking up" from the long winter and are out looking for food. Use these safety tips from Colorado Parks & Wildlife if you will be hiking in bear country.
Enjoy a Dip in the Hot Springs
Nothing beats a soak in one of Steamboat's area hot springs, no matter what the time of year. In town, the Old Town Hot Springs offers convenient access to several natural hot springs of varying temperatures, plus waterslides for the kids, or you can enjoy a more scenic option about 4 miles out of town at Strawberry Park Hot Springs, where you can also enjoy an in-water massage.
Get on the Road
Steamboat is also know as "Bike Town, USA" for good reason, offering stellar mountian and road bikiing opportunities. Unless you're a more advanced rider, we'd advise that you stick to road biking during the spring, because many mountain biking trails are too muddy to enjoy.
