Savor the Season: Our Guide to Local Colorado Farmer's Markets

It’s a bluebird sky day in Colorado. There’s a crispness to the morning mountain air as you grab your shopping basket, stop by the local coffee shop for a steaming latte, and head to the farmer’s market. Such a delightful way to spend a weekend morning on vacation.

At farmer’s markets in Breckenridge, Steamboat, and the Vail Valley, discover an abundance of farm-fresh produce and meats from nearby ranches. Find locally sourced bouquets of wildflowers and famous Palisades peaches, even wine from grapes grown on the Western Slope. And that’s not all! There are unique treasures, from handcrafted leather goods to goat milk soaps and sparkling jewelry made by local artisans.

Be on the lookout for these goodies that Colorado is known for:

  • Palisades peaches
  • Olathe corn
  • Rocky Ford melons
  • Roasted chilis (a staple grown in southern Colorado)

Check out Colorado Proud's Produce Calendar to find out what's in season when you're visiting.

Steamboat

At the Main Street Steamboat Farmers Market you'll find everything you need to prepare a gourmet meal for your family, from buffalo, chicken, beef, and trout to specialty sauces and delicious baked goods, and plenty of fresh veggies. Sprinkled throughout all the produce you'll find local artisans booths. The market is held every Saturday on Yampa Street from June 8 - September 21, 9am - 2pm.

If you miss the farmers market, you can stop by the Community Agriculture Alliance store Monday - Friday. Over 60 local producers bring in meat, eggs, seasonal produce, cheese, honey, and other handmade items.

Vail Valley

One of the best opportunities to shop for Colorado-grown and locally made goods is at the Vail Farmer's Market and Art Show. Every Sunday from June 16-October 6, 9:30am-3:30pm, Meadow Drive is bustling with people strolling through tents that are brimming with Colorado artisan items and food. New every Thursday evening this summer, the Thursday Meadow Market is open from 4-7pm.

Be sure to peruse the booths of these vendors that are on our favorites list:

Just down the road is the locals' favorite, the Minturn Market. It takes place in historic downtown Minturn every Saturday, June 22 - September 7, from 9am-2pm.

Breckenridge

The Breckenridge Sunday Market features vendors from all over Colorado with a unique selection of artistic creations, handcrafted and homegrown items. Catch a mountain vibe and stunning views of Peak 9 as you stroll through the market in Main Street Station Plaza next to Maggie Pond. It's held every Sunday from June 9 - September 8, 10am - 3pm.

The best part is that many Moving Mountains luxury vacation rental homes are conveniently located near the local farmer’s markets – some within easy walking or biking distance. Then once you've hauled home your bags of fresh produce, meats and fish, cheese, and freshly baked breads, prepare a farmer's market feast in the gourmet kitchen and enjoy it al fresco on the deck.
