Go For Gold - Breckenridge's Mining History

In 1859, prospectors came to Summit County looking for gold, and Breckenridge was established during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush. Because of this rich history of gold mining in Breckenridge, there are still remnants of old mining cabins, outposts, and mines still around the area today. The town was eventually transformed into the ski and mountain town it is known as today but you will uncover many treasures that still linger around the area today

You can take a tour of some of these old mines and outposts and even go more than 1000 feet deep into the town’s most famous mine, Country Boy Mine. Learn how to pan for gold or about the rich history of mining in the county that has made Breckenridge what it is today. Original hydraulic mining equipment are still in place as well at the Lomax Mine where you can feel what the prospectors felt and step into an old miner’s cabin.
